Palletteers Support smART Summer Institute Art Exhibit

An invitation was sent to the Palletteers to participate in an "open call" for local artists to exhibit one piece of artwork during the smART Summer Institute Art Exhibit at CMCA held last Saturday afternoon.
The "drop in" art show was exhibited on latice flats in the museum garden. The program for high school-age teens had been funded by a grant obtained by artist Cynthia Hatfield. They'd created artwork "with a message", depicting both things that needed solutions as well as things that were good on St. Croix.

Candle Reef Condos

We all loved Candle Reef Condominium at Estate Green Cay. Our hostess, Nancy Schmidt, has the lower half of a stand-alone unit that looks straight out at Buck Island, with Pull Point to the west and another interesting point to the east. The grounds are immaculate, the beach is long and empty, and we had a perfect day. Nancy's condo has beautiful breezes as well as terrific views, and she was very hospitable, serving ice tea and snacks. At show and tell Elizabeth brought in some Christmas tree balls that she is decorating. She is painting the red ones in the Twelve Days of Christmas for her family-- they look like they came from an upscale store. The clear ones are for the Palletteers to paint and display in a Christmas art show, before Christmas. It's been suggested, since the Palletteers don't charge dues, that perhaps the ornaments could be sold as a fund-raiser to support the Palletteers' art show ventures.

ARTfarm located at Estate Longford

If you live on a tropical island like St. Croix, most of your food items are shipped in. However, St. Croix is very fortunate that we also have an organic farming venture, ARTfarm. Run by local artists Luca & Christina Gasperi, ARTfarm is a small organic vegetable farm and art gallery located on our South Shore. Some of the farm's recent farmstand offerings were giant avacados, baby spicy salad mix, microgreens, arugula, asian water spinach, garlic chives, basil, thai basil, lemongrass, bananas, malay apple, mesple, mangoes and strawberry guava! It makes my mouth water just to write all that! You can only imagine how much the Palletteers looked forward to painting at this unique farm! We weren't disappointed: we discovered that this is a real farm, complete with cows and chickens and tractors and all that! You'll be able to find out more about them and even find a photo of our visit there if you go to their web site, http://artfarmllc.wordpress.com
