Palletteers' Morning at Whim

We had a great morning painting at Whim Plantation today! With so many painting subjects there... the greathouse, the cookhouse and museum store, the sugar mill and factory ruins... it's always hard to decide on just one, but everyone managed to produce some fine artwork! One special memory from this morning's painting time will be the lovely classical piano music that wafted out to us from within the greathouse where the pianist was practicing his art.

Palletteers at Estate Cane Bay

"Here a Palletteer, there a Palletteer, everywhere a Palletteer! " That's what it's starting to feel like this winter when I do a mid-morning check of our group. It's been a great winter, with lots of old and new members showing up to paint each Friday. Van and Kitsy Wood's home in Estate Cane Bay was perfect for us because there was plenty of parking, many choices for interesting and varied subject matter, spacious enough for us to spread out, and ample shade too. We all could easily see why this home was recently on the Landmarks Society house tour.
I am always amazed at how I can look at exactly the same thing as the person painting next to me and we each produce something so different... Or that I entirely miss seeing a great subject to paint. Although all the morning's artwork exemplified wonderful creative energy I think we were all especially enchanted by Alma's unique painting of the view as seen thru the hurricane candle's globe.

Palletteers Most Certainly Do Apothecary Hall Courtyard

Cheering Section
Palletteers in Action

Wow! We had quite a showing of Palletteers yesterday morning at Apothecary Hall Courtyard! I got there early and found my spot in front of Danica's art gallery and it wasn't until I went up to Cafe Christine's to look at her lunch menu that I saw how many artists had shown up! That's great! Unfortunately, people left before we did our usual "show and tell" so I have no photos of paintings to post on the blog this week. I did take photos of us "in action" while we were painting and even got into one myself, so those, along with a cute pix of our "cheering section" that also joined us can be seen above.
Sorry there was some confusion about lunch. Since Christines has limited seating, I'd thought that my email request for people to RSVP so that I could make reservations had reached everyone... but it hadn't. To make matters worse, when I copied the list of those who had RSVP'd, I accidentally left Carol's name off. Mea culpa, Carol.
Next week, no reservations necessary... hope to paint and dine with you all then.

Palletteers Enjoy Southgate Plantation

Southgate is a great place to paint because it has something for everyone: a sugarmill, watermill and other ruins laid out on manicured grounds, amidst lovely plantings, and the architecture of the condos themselves. The wind presented a small problem to those with lighter materials as it produced some surfing of paper and paint pallettes during the morning's session. However the temperature was perfect, the air pristine, and the sky gorgeous... another wonderful St. Croix morning. As you can tell from the photos of our artwork, it all enticed our creativity (one Palletteer produced 5 artworks!). Fifteen of us reconvened for lunch and talk afterwards at the Deep End restaurant.
