St. George Village Botanical Garden

Since I've been stateside, the blog has become more a community effort. Thanks to Emy and Elizabeth I have some good photos to post from Friday's paintout at the Botanical Garden. This is always a site that has an endless variety of subject matter and our Palletteers took advantage of quite a few of them.

Many of the members took the opportunity to enjoy the gourmet luncheon offered at the Garden several times a month.
Our up-coming Art in the Garden show has made the news!
Although I really miss all my friends and family on St. Croix, I think I made the right decision to head north to a "state of the art" facility. I am doing well and finished my 6th radiation treatment earlier this morning. My care has been first class and I've been embraced by true Southern hospitality. My only wish is that it will warm up faster. Can't believe I'm getting excited about weather predictions in the high 60's! Thanks for all your positive thoughts! Ginger

What have we been up to?

Have you ever wondered what our members are doing when they're not painting with the group? Judy Koenig-Smith sent me a photo of a painting she did of her daughter, Janice, while on the trail in Arizona.
While up in the states getting radiated, I'm experimenting with a new medium: acrylics. Missing my little poodle, my first attempt was from a picture I'd taken of her, at rest, waiting for me to play with her. My second attempt was of a rooster. Working from photos I'd taken of two different Christiansted roosters, I did a wash for the background first and then I painted my rooster. As you can see, the color from the rooster's feathers bled into the background.. so now I know that I have to let my wash dry before painting next to it... oh well. I still liked my rooster.
Mary Pickett painted with the group at the fort this past Friday and then was so revved up when she got home that she painted another scene from that morning. This is one of my favorite views from the fort's windows.

A windy day painting at Fort Christiansvaern

The Palletteers met to paint on the grounds of Fort Christiansvaern, located on the Christiansted waterfront, this past Friday morning. Despite the wind, the group managed to produce some pretty neat paintings!


























I'm presently in Birmingham, Alabama, where I received the GREAT news last Tuesday that I don't need chemo! I'm eagerly looking forward to the beginning of my radiation treatments this coming week. Thanks to Emy and Elizabeth, who sent me their photos of the group's plein air endeavors, I was able to continue with our blog. Ginger

Art at the Palms

Some of the Palletteers accepted the invitation of The Palms resort to sell their artwork last night. They also did some body art. It looks like you gals are having way too much fun!

Painting Lamps for Women's Coalition

A group of Palletteers and their friends got together recently at Elizabeth's home to decorate lamps for the Womens Coalition fundraiser, "Shine the Light" that will take place March 19th. Great work, gals!
